nCoup COO presents new models for patient data collection in Scientific Session at the 2022 Tandem Meetings

Fremont, CA, May 11, 2022

The 2022 Tandem Meetings, which combines the annual meetings of the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) and the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research Center (CIBMTR), were in late April in Salt Lake City. At the conference, nCoup COO Amar Chahal, MBBS, FRCS, MBA, presented the Scientific Session “New Models for Use of Institutional Patient Data in Registries.” In the session, Dr. Chahal presented an analysis of granular data required in some trials and the CIBMTR and its provenance in common Electronic Medical Records (EMRs). He then described how a new generation of software technology can better serve the extensive patient data registry and clinical trial data collection needs in cell therapy.

Today, cell therapy providers are required to collect extensive patient data for registries at the CIBMTR/EBMT, as well as for the operational, clinical trial, and registry needs of cell manufacturers who provide specialized cell-based treatments. What is today a labor intensive, often duplicitous and mostly manual set of data collection and data entry activities can instead be streamlined with Electronic Health Record (EHR) to Electronic Data Capture (EDC) integration. In addition, a singular software platform that is configurable to support multiple registry and clinical trial protocols is significantly more efficient than the current one-off approach..

The talk featured a detailed analysis of registry data needs and related data sources. The conclusions were a) a large number of required data fields overlap across registries and clinical trials; b) a material proportion of the required data are available in source systems; and c) EHR-to-EDC automation can be harnessed to save time and cost and improve the quality of data collection.

The session was well attended and favorably received by the many data managers, technologists, and physician cell transplanters in attendance.
