AACI Clinical Research Innovation Annual Meeting Presentation Highlights the Value of EHR to EDC Integration

Fremont, CA, August 20, 2020

The Associate of American Cancer Institutes (AACI) held its 12th Annual Clinical Research Innovation (CRI) Meeting on July 7-8, 2020. The virtual meeting included a presentation from The University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUCC) and nCoup entitled “Connecting the Clinical Research Supply Chain – Part Two”. The presentation described a project in which clinical trial data were transferred electronically from the Electronic Health Record (EHR) directly to Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems. Across three cancer clinical trials, the collaborators compared the time and cost of automated EHR to EDC data entry versus doing the same work with the traditional manual approach.

In all three studies, the results were similar. The time and labor cost savings were approximately 50%, a highly significant result, using automated versus manual data entry for each of three studies tested. In addition, there were no data entry errors for the data sourced electronically using EHR to EDC integration.

The project employed the nCartes EHR to EDC platform from nCoup, Inc.

“nCoup is very pleased to have validated the power and value of EHR to EDC automation leveraging nCartes,” says John S. McIlwain, CEO of nCoup. Inc. “We extend our sincere thanks to the team at The University of Kansas Cancer Center for their work and leadership bringing nCartes to fruition alongside of us. In so doing, they have helped create a significant opportunity for other clinical research sites to benefit as well.”

Since completion of the project, nCoup has gone on to add another large clinical trial sponsor partner and is in the process of rolling out nCartes to additional sites as part of that collaboration as well as other initiatives.
